A desktop build planner for Dune: Awakening. Data ripped from assets and binary disassembly.

DuneBuilder's defense view: character stats on the left, the equipment loadout in the centre, and the calculated effective-health and mitigation breakdown on the right.

Data sources

Funcom ships the game's content in the UE5 IoStore format (.utoc / .ucas), not the older .pak. The numbers come from two passes over each patch:

  • Extraction. A CUE4Parse wrapper deserializes DataTables, CurveTables, and DataAssets into clean JSON. From ~183K total assets (~1,800 DataTables, ~2,100 CurveTables), only ~15 tables are gameplay-relevant and get pulled per patch.
  • Binary analysis. Values compiled into C++ serialize as all-zero in the assets, so they can't be extracted that way. The shipping executable is analysed in Ghidra to recover them: the armor mitigation constant, augment grade-scaling curves, the crit damage pipeline, and the PvP multipliers.

The damage model

Damage resolves as a flat add, then a chain of independent multipliers:

final = (Base + augFlat) × factorMul × hitSplit × (1 + poolPct/100) × critMul

Flat augment bonuses land inside the base before anything scales, while percentage pools, hit splitting, and crit each apply as their own multiplier. Armor is a separate mitigation curve rather than a per-tier table:

ArmorMit% = totalArmor / (totalArmor + K) × 100      (K ≈ 500)

Key findings

Some of what the data surfaces never appears in-game:

  • Armor is a single mitigation curve, not a per-tier table: totalArmor / (totalArmor + K) with K ≈ 500, so each point of armor is worth less than the last.
  • Shield mitigation falls with tier (factor 1.15 at T0 → 1.0 at T5+), so higher-tier shields bleed less damage through.
  • Status-effect damage-over-time scales steeply across 10 tiers: Poison 3→33/tick, Burn 7.5→75/tick, InfiniteElectric 15→500/tick.
  • Some augments are deterministic. House Heavy Caliber Upgrade rolls max every time (no RNG) and applies to any ranged weapon.
